Mindy Altice
FERRUM, Va. -- Volleyball standout Mindy Altice has been named the 2008 Ferrum College President's Cup recipient.

The President’s Cup is awarded annually to an individual who exhibits excellence in academics, athletics, campus and community leadership, and character.  Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and be a senior.

Altice earned All-Conference recognition in the USA South Athletic Conference four straight years. She was an honorable mention in 2004 and 2005, earned second-team honors in 2006, and this past season was a first-team selection.

A two-time All-State selection, as voted upon by the Virginia Sports Information Directors, Altice earned second team honors in 2006 and first-team in 2007.  Altice holds four school records at Ferrum; season kills, career kills, season kill attempts and career kill attempts.

She has been named to the Academic All-State team the past two years and will be a three-time recipient when the team is announced this June.  Altice is a seven-time Dean's List honoree, and would likely have earned the honor an eighth time had she not graduated a semester early.

Altice will earn her fourth consecutive Academic All-Conference honor from the USA South when the team is announced by the league office in June. She graduated last December with a bachelor's degree in accounting.

Not only a success in the classroom and on the volleyball court, Altice is also a successful businesswoman. She owns and operates a Curves franchise, located in Rocky Mount, Virginia.

Altice prepped at Franklin County High School, where she was All-District, All-Timesland, All-Region and All-State for the Eagles. She was the 2003 Western Valley District Player of the Year, and also played for the West team in the 2003 Virginia State All-Stars game.

Altice is the daughter of Gwen and Michael Altice of Wirtz, Virginia. She played four years for the Panthers, her last three under Head Coach Nancy Howlett.
