BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Ferrum College was eliminated from the 2009 USA South Baseball Tournament with a pair of losses April 18 at Brulington Athletic Stadium.
The Panthers suffered their first setback in three outings with a 9-2 loss to #4 Shenandoah University, then were eliminated by #1 North Carolina Wesleyan College 10-8.
Against Shenandoah, Kevin Marshall and Jason Butterworht each had a pair of base hits for the Panthers. Starter Trey Finch got the loss, pitching 5.1 innings.
In the loss to N.C. Wesleyan, three players homerd for Ferrum. Jesse Fuller had a two-run HR in the first inning, Marshall a solo shot in the seventh inning, and Franklin had a three-run blast in the ninth inning.
Ferrum (14-15) returns to action April 20 at Emory & Henry College. The game will be played in Pulaski, Virginia. The Panthers will then York (Pa.) College May 2 and May 3 at home, before closing the season with a doubleheader against the University of Mary Washington April 4 at home.
