The volleyball team had 10 of 12 players on the 2009 USA South Academic All-Conference Team.
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2008-09 Academic All-Conference team and Ferrum College had 69 student-athletes named to the team.

To be eligible for the Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average in both the fall and spring semesters.  Student-athletes participating in any varsity sport at are eligible. The sport does not have to be a Conference-sponsored sport.

This season, a record total of 734 athletes earned Academic All-Conference honors.  The complete list of Ferrum student-athletes on the 2009 Academic All-Conference team is listed below. 

Highlighting the list for the Panthers was Coach Nancy Howlett's volleyball team, which placed 10 of her 12-player squad on the Academic All-Conference team, just over 83% of the team.  Ferrum's volleyball players honored include Brittany Barlow, Jennifer Carter, Lynette Fatovic, Jessica Flanagan, Chrissy Panuska, Hannah Shumaker, Mallory Stratton, Lauren Thurman, Tiffany Walker and Jessica Washburn.

TJ Grzesikowski was a concensus All-American punter for Ferrum this season.
Kelsey Walters earned All-Conference in both soccer and lacrosse this year.
Individually, Kelsey Walters and TJ Grzesikowski highlighted the list for the Panthers.  Walters was an All-Conference selection in women's soccer and women's lacrosse, while Grzesikowski was a concensus All-American punter for the football team.

Walters made the USA South's All-Conference third team as a midfielder in women's soccer.  She tied teammate Jessica Liveley as the team's leading scorers, each notching six goals and five assists for 17 points.  Walters earned honorable mention as a defender in lacrosse, scoring four goals in her first-ever season playing the sport.

Grzesikowski earned All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association (1st team), the Associated Press (2nd team) and D3football.com (3rd team).  He punted 47 times for 2059 yards this season for the Panthers in earning All-Conference first team honors.  Grzesikowski's 43.8 yards per punt average won the NCAA Division III statictical championship.  A rising junior, Grzesikowski has already been named to one preseason All-America season for the 2009 season.

The women's tennis team had five of seven players named to the Academic All-Conference Team.
Coach Lew Hege's women's tennis team had five of its seven players named Academic All-Conference, just over 71%.  Joining McMillan were Angelina Baaklini, Heather Marshall, Morgan Moran and Brittany Rodgers.

Ferrum had five two-sport athletes named to the Academic All-Conference team this year, all women.  Joining Walters were Brittany Barlow, Lea McMillan, Hannah Shumaker and Lauren Thurman.  McMillan played women's soccer and women's tennis.  Barlow, Shumaker and Thurman played volleyball and softball.
