FERRUM, Va. -- The Ferrum College women's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2008 USA South Tournament with an 8-1 win over North Carolina Wesleyan College in the play-in game April 15 at home. Ferrum is playing as the #7 seed, while N.C. Wesleyan was the #10 seed.

Tabitha Brown defeated Megan Herd and Leila Heinenen 8-2 at the #1 spot, while freshman
Morgan Moran and junior
Brittany Rodgers blanked Charis Nkunda and Juliana Richardson 8-0 at #2. The Panthers accepted a forfeit win at #3 doubles.
Coach Rod Baker's team then took five of the six singles matches, including a forfeit at the last spot. Rodgers beat Heinonen 8-4 at #2 singles, Porter beat Herd 6-0 6-0 at #3, Moran beat Nkunda 6-1, 6-0 at #4 and senior
Shauna Simon beat Richardson 6-0, 6-2 at #5.
Ferrum improved to 7-8 with the win, while the Bishops closed out a winless season at 0-19. Next up for the Panthers is a date with #2 seed Christopher Newport University in the USA South Tournament quarterfinal round at Burlington Tennis Center Friday, April 18. The quarterfibnal round begins at 9 a.m. in Burlington, North Carolina.
