FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Ferrum College men's soccer team fell 3-1 to Methodist University this afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the 2010 USA South Tournament.
Ferrum was the tournament's #5 seed, Methodist the #4 seed. Eric McGinnis had a goal and two assists to lead the Monarchs to the win.
Chris Key gave Ferrum a 1-0 lead when he beat Methodist goalkeeper Kyle Beach at the 5:47 mark early in the match. Jared Fohs scored in the 32nd minute with an assist from McGinnis to send the match into halftime tied 1-1.
McGinnis and Alex Ray scored goals in the 48th and 59th minutes, respectively, for the Monarchs to seal the victory. Ray and Fohs each had a goal and an assist.
Chris Taylor played all 90 minutes in net the the Panthers, making 10 saves in his final collegiate match. Beach made two saves for Methodist.
The Panthers close out the season at 4-12-2. Methodist improves to 11-8 and will play top seed North Carolina Wesleyan College Friday in the semifinals at Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville.
