Jason Butterworth went 5-8 with a triple, three RBI and two runs to help Ferrum College win a pair of non-conference games this afternoon on the road.
The Panthers opened the afternoon with a 6-4 win over Rutgers-Camden, then topped Waynesburg University 9-7. Both games were played at Hampden-Sydney College.
Against Rutgers-Camden, Butterworth went 3-4 with a run and two RBI.
Jason Parker went 2-4 with a double, a run and an RBI.
Sammy Holloway went 2-4 with a run and an RBI.
Brian Mays got the win, pitching three innings in relief. Mays allowed three hits and no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.
Kelly Ballay went 3-4 with two runs for Rutgers-Camden (0-2). Andrew Hoffman was credited with the loss, pitching the first 6.1 innings for the Raptors. He allowed eight hits and five earned runs, walked two and struck out four.
Against Waynesburg, Ferrum led 9-4 going into the bottom of the ninth inning, where the Yellow Jackets scored three runs before Ferrum reliever
Michael Baskeyfield closed things out to earn his first save of the year. Butterworth,

Justin Franklin,
Travis Crump, and
Caleb Dorton each had a pair of base hits for Ferrum. The Panthers out-hit Waynesburg 15-7.
Bill Hanning went 2-4 with a three-run homer in the sixth inning for Waynesburg (0-2). Starter Zac Rhoades earned the loss, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing six hits and four earned runs.
Ferrum (2-1) is scheduled to be back in action Tuesday, Feb. 23, at home against non-conference opponent Southern Virginia University. Game time is set for 3 p.m. if field conditions allow the game to be played.
