FERRUM, Va. -- DJ Phillips belted out six base hits to set a new single-game school record as Ferrum College blasted  Emory & Henry College 22-8 in non-conference baseball action tonight at home.

Phillips went 6-6 with two doubles, three runs and three RBI.  He had a similar performance in an 11-2 win over Greensboro College March 27, going 5-5 with a double, a run and two RBI.

Daniel Alvarez belted two home runs tonight, while Justin Franklin hit his ninth homer of the year.  Alvarez hit a solo shot in the first inning, then followed with a three-run shot in the second.  He went 2-4 with two homers, three runs and four RBI.  Franklin also sent a three-run homer into the cheap seats in the second inning.

Tyler Milstead earned the win, pitching 2.2 innings of middle relief.  He allowed no hits or runs, walked two and struck out five.

Eric Houff went 3-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI for Emory & Henry (1-11).  Michael Unger had a two-run homer in the second inning.

Ferrum (16-6) returns to action Friday and Saturday, April 2-3, with a USA South series at North Carolina Wesleyan College.  Both games begin at 3 p.m. in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.  Ferrum, N.C. Wesleyan and Shenandoah University all lead the USA South with 5-3 league records.
