YORK, Pa. -- A solid pitching performance by starter Brian Mays helped Ferrum beat York College of Pennsylvania 17-7 in non-conference baseball action May 6 on the road.

Ferrum (24-13) opened a 12-0 lead midway through the seventh inning before the Spartans could get on the board. The Panthers had 19 base hits, including home runs by Caleb Dorton and Daniel Alvarez.

Alvarez homered in the seventh inning, a solo shot over the center field fence. Dorton had a pinch-hit two-run blast in the ninht inning, also to center field.

Sammy Holloway went 4-6 with a double, two runs and three RBI for the Panthers. Jason Butterworth went 3-6 with a triple and two runs. Mays threw seven innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs while walking four and striking out five.

Ferrum and York (24-13) play again Friday at 1 p.m.
