FERRUM, Va. -- Freshman
Aaron Gustine recorded a rare hat trick to lead the Ferrum College men's soccer team to a 4-0 shutout win over visiting Warren Wilson College this afternoon at home. The match was the first of three this weekend in the 2010 Ferrum Invitational Tournament.
Gustine had goals in the 5th, 38th and 50th minute of play to spot Ferrum a 3-0 lead. He is the first person to record a hat trick for Ferrum since Ryan Hall accomplished the feat with three goals and an assist for seven points against Averett University on October 17, 2006 in Ferrum.
Matt Ballinger was credited with an assist on Gustine's second goal.
Matt Janssen scored the final goal for Ferrum at 53:14, with
Asa Fox being credited with the assist. Jenssen was also credited with an assist on Gustine's first goal.
Goalkeeper
Ben Pittsley made his first start for the Panthers, making no saves. Sanders Dorough made seven saves in net for Warren Wilson (0-6). Ferrum out-shot the Owls18-3 and held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Warren Wilson will face Piedmont College Saturday at 5 p.m. On Sunday, Ferrum (2-4) and Piedmont will play the tournament's third and final match. An All-Tournament Team will be announced following Sunday's match.
