SALEM, Va. -- Ferrum College's men's basketball team beat Roanoke College 72-66 this afternoon in game #3 of the 2011 V-Foundation Classic, hosted by Roanoke.
Roanoke (0-2) battled to within a bucket of potentially sending the game into overtime. Down 68-66 with just over 20 seconds remaining, RC's Kwasi Amponsah drove the lane but his layup rimmed out and Ferrum's
Lamont King pulled down the rebound. Ferrum would knock down four free-throws from there to secure the win.
Daryl Hart led Ferrum with 17 points and three steals. King had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Both were named to the All-Tournament Team.Â
Nick English and Javonte Rankin had 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The win is Ferrum's third consecutive over Roanoke. Coach Bill Tharp's squad out-rebounded the Maroons, 36-32. Ferrum (1-2) returns to action Tuesday, Nov. 22, at home against Emory & Henry College. Tip-off for the Panthers' home-opener is set for 7:00 p.m. at Swartz Gymnasium.
