FERRUM, Va. --
Lamont King scored 22 points to lead Ferrum College to an 85-74 non-conference men's basketball win over LaGrange College this afternoon at home.
The Panthers broke a 31-31 halftime stalemate with a 13-4 run to open the second half, taking a 44-35 lead on a dunk by
Daryl Hart at the 16:36 mark. Ferrum (6-4) would eventually open a 14-point lead at 69-55 on
Lamont King's tip-in with 6:06 left to play.
LaGrange responded with a 14-2 run over the next three minutes, trimming the lead to 71-69 with just over three minutes left in regulation. Ferrum scored the next eight points, including
Marcus Mayo's pair of free throws with :36 showing on the clock to take a 79-69 lead.
King had six rebounds and four blocked shots to go with his 22 points. Hart had 17 points, Mayo had 15 points, and
Nick English had 14 as the Panthers(6-4) won their fourth straight. Kyron Anderson had a game-high 23 points for LaGrange (4-9). Marcus Vaughn had 18 points, while Denzel Robinson and Nick Mitchell had 11 each.
Ferrum returns to action Saturday, Dec. 31, at home against Covenant College. The non-conference affair tips off at 1:00 p.m. at Swartz Gym.
