FERRUM, Va. – The Ferrum College baseball team picked up a pair of non-conference wins this afternoon at home over Eastern Mennonite University, winning the opener 6-2 in seven innings and the nightcap 7-6 in nine innings.
Sammy Holloway and
Peter Byron had a pair of base hits each in the first game for Ferrum.
Chris Walker pitched six innings to get the win, allowing seven hits and no runs with six strikeouts.
In the second game, Ferrum trailed 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning before scoring two runs. Byron walked with the bases loaded to push a run across the plate, followed by a
Taryn Hayden single to allow
Daniel Alvarez to score the game-winning run. Alvarez and
Justin Puentes had two hits each for Ferrum.
Caleb Dorton earned the win, pitching four innings in relief for the Panthers (3-1). Dorton allowed no hits or runs and struck out six. Chris Harpine had four base hits in the two games for Eastern Mennonite (2-4).
