FERRUM, Va. -- Shenandoah University scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning and one in the ninth to take a 9-5 USA South baseball win over Ferrum College this afternoon at Panther Field. The Hornets are currently ranked No. 6 in the nation in one Division III poll, while two other polls list them in the top 10.
Paul Jaglowski went 3-4 with a double, scored a run and drove in another to lead the Panthers (5-4, 0-1 USA South).
Caleb Dorton and
Eddie McGrath each had a pair of base hits for Ferrum. Dorton went 2-4 with a pair of RBI, while McGrath went 2-3 with an RBI.
Dorton also pitched three innings, allowing three hits and four earned runs with four walks and a pair of strikeouts. Starter
Chris Walker absorbed the loss, allowing seven hits and four earned runs over six innings. He walked two and struck out three.
All-American Greg VanSickler improved to 3-0 with the win for the Hornets (6-0, 1-0 USA South), striking out five and walking none. The two teams meet again Sunday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m.
