FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College built a 3-0 lead after three innings and hung on for a 7-2 non-conference baseball win over Hampden-Sydney College tonight at Panther Field.  The win avenged a 5-3 season-opening loss to the Tigers on February 4 at Hampden-Sydney.

The Panthers scored two runs in the first inning, courtesy of an Eddie McGrath double to left field that drove in two runs.  Wes Walker grounded out in the third inning, driving in a run.  The Tigers scored a run in the fourth inning Andrew Tucker singled and drove in Patrick Kuhns.  Ferrum struck for two more runs in the seventh inning and another two in the eighth.

Paul Jaglowski went 2-4  and scored two runs for the Panthers (16-8).  Starter Chris Madison pitched six innings to get the win.  He allowed four hits, an earned run and two walks, while striking out four.

Beau Flinchum went 2-4 for the Tigers (7-13).  Starter Aaron Van Allen got the loss, pitching six full innings.  He allowed three hits, two earned runs and a walk, and struck out six batters.
