FERRUM, Va. -- Methodist University took the first two games of a USA South Athletic Conference series from Ferrum College today at Panther Field, winning 5-3 and 11-8. The two teams will close out the series Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Panther Field.
In the opener, David Lutz's two-RBI single to right-center in the ninth inning gave Methodist (6-4, 4-4 USA South) the win. Ferrum's
Chris Walker stuck out nine in a complete game loss.

Teddy Turner each had a pair of base hits for Ferrum.
In the nightcap, catcher
Wes Walker had two home runs for Ferrum , a three-run blast in the seventh and a two-run shot in the ninth. Walker closed the game 4-5 with a double, two HR, two runs and six RBI. Turner went 3-5 with two doubles and a run, while
Taryn Hayden went 2-3 with three runs and a walk.
Jake Perkins got the loss, striking out seven batters over six innings, and allowing six hits and four earned runs.
Ferrum (5-7, 2-6 USA South) returns to action Sunday at home to close out the series against Methodist, then Darren Hodges' team will then play at Roanoke College Thursday, Feb. 28, at 3:00 p.m. in Salem, Virginia.
