FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College picked up a USA South double-header baseball sweep over Methodist University this afternoon at Panther Field, courtesy of strong pitching performances by
Jake Perkins and
Dillon Weaver. The Panthers won the first game 9-6, and the nightcap 9-7.
Perkins threw six innings in the opener to get the win. He allowed four hits, three earned runs and two walks, while striking out four. Weaver tossed the opening six innings of the nightcap to get the win. He allowed nine hits, four earned runs and two walks, with four strikeouts.
Jeff Swoope went 2-3 with a solo home run in the seventh inning of game one for Ferrum.

Adam Duncan and
Matt Reynolds each had two base hits in the opener for the Panthers, who clubbed 14 hits in the game. Ray Lanners had a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the ninth inning for the Monarchs (13-8, 7-4 USA South).
In the second game, Duncan went 3-5 with a run, three RBI, and a stolen base.
Justin Cox went 2-3 with two runs and a stolen base.
Ferrum (15-6, 12-2 USA South) and Methodist are scheduled to play the third and final game of the series Sunday at 2 p.m. at Panther Field. The game time may be altered depending upon incoming inclement weather. Please check back to www.ferrumpanthers.com for any scheduling announcements.
