VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Skyler Weaver had three goals to lead Virginia Wesleyan College to a 6-0 non-conference win over Ferrum College in non-conference field hockey action this afternoon at Marlins Field. The game was the season opener for both schools, and Ferrum's first game since the 1999 season.
Alexis Atkinson played 35 minutes in net with one save for the Panthers (0-1).
Courtney Gosslin played the second half and made four stops. Lindsay Baker played all 70 minutes in net for the Marlins (1-0), making three saves. Virginia Wesleyan out-shot Ferrum 19-3.
Kasey Sheets led Ferrum with two shots on net.
Coach Carrie Hanshue Austin's team will be back in action Saturday, August 30, against the University of Mary Washington. The non-conference game gets underway at 3:00 p.m. back at Marlins Field.
