FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College picked up its first field hockey win of the season with tonight's 14-0 non-conference win over visiting Sweet Briar College at W.B. Adams Stadium.

Sierra Magdaleno and
Destanee Cutler had a goal each at the 5:02 and 6:38 marks, respectively, to open scoring. It was 8-0 at halftime and the Panthers poured it on in the second half with six more goals.
Blaire Ryder led the team with three goals and an assist, and

Courtney Gosslin and
Mia Holmes split time in net for Ferrum to get the shared shutout. Ferrum out-shot Sweet Briar 60-0 and closed the game with a 10-0 edge in penalty corners.

"It's a good feeling to get a win," said Coach Carrie Hanshue Austin. "It was especially nice to see some of our new players step up and score their first collegiate goals. We hope to build on this as we prepare for conference play this weekend."

Austin's team will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 23, at home against Centre College. Game time for the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest is 9:30 a.m. at W.B. Adams Stadium. The Panthers then host Transylvania University Sunday, Sept. 24, at 11:00 a.m. in another SAA game.
