Ferrum Sweeps Tigers in ODAC Baseball Doubleheader

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Ferrum College earned an Old Dominion Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader sweep with a pair of comeback wins over Hampden-Sydney College. The Panthers opened with a 9-8 win in 10 innings, then posted an 11-6 win in the nightcap at Yank Bernier Field.

The Panthers trailed 8-2 after seven inning in the opener, but erupted for six runs in the top of the eighth inning to send the game into extra innings. Grey Sherfey's RBI single in the top of the 10th allowed Brandon Roberts to score the game-winning run.

In the nightcap, Greenway started things off with a two-run homer in the second inning, then Tim Ortega followed suit with a two-run shot in the third. Hampden-Sydney grabbed a short-lived 5-4 lead after four innings, but the Panthers got three back in the fifth, two in the eighth and two in the ninth to complete the sweep.

Brittle's bunch will be back in action at the ODAC Tournament, the field for which will be announced when the final regular season games in the league are completed Sunday, April 28. The ODAC Tournament runs from May 3-12.
