FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College junior running back Brian Mann has been having a stellar season on the football field. Today he is being celebrated for his work in the classroom. The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Football Team was announced and Mann represents the Panthers on the District 5 first team.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District teams are part of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America program. As a first team Academic All-District selection, Mann is now in contention for the prestigious Academic All-America Team, to be announced in a few weeks.
CoSIDA's District 5 encompasses the largest number of states of the six districts, and includes student-athletes from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
Mann has produces some impressive numbers thus far during the 2018 season. Through nine games, the junior from Pearisburg, Virginia, has 1614 yards on 238 rushing attempts, 15 touchdowns and 179.3 yards per game rushing average. He is currently among the nation's leaders in NCAA Div. III rushing yards per game (#4), rushing yards (#4), all-purpose yards (#6), scoring (#11), rushing touchdowns (#13) and rushing yards per carry (#18).
Mann currently holds 12 school records, including game, season and career rushing yards and game, season and career rushing touchdowns. He is a four time Dean's List honoree at Ferrum, and has earned a pair of Academic All-Conference awards with the USA South Athletic Conference, a league Ferrum left last summer in order to join the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
Mann and the Panthers close out the season Saturday, Nov. 17, at Averett University. The non-conference game is set to kick off at 2:00 p.m. in Danville, Virginia. This is a make-up game from Sept. 15, when Hurricane Florence forced a postponement.
