LEXINGTON, Virginia -- Ferrum College came on the losing end of a 30-10 score line Saturday evening in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference affair with Washington and Lee at Wilson Field.

It was not until 9:58 to play in quarter number two before either team would break the 0-0 tie. An Alex Wertz run from seven yards out would put the Generals up 7-0 after an extra point by Jarrett Wright. Washington and Lee then called on the big play, as Coby Kirkland made a house call with a 76-yard run with 2:30 remaining in the half. The Generals would then push the lead to 21-0 just 49 seconds before the break, this time through the air. Montgomery Owen would haul in a Jack Pollard pass and take it 29 yards to the house.
After the break, the Panthers would call on their record-setting kicker to get things started for them in the second half. Brad Green split the uprights with a 37-yard field goal to bring the Panthers to within two scores of Washington and Lee. The Generals would answer right back in their next possession, as Owen would haul in his second touchdown reception of the game, this time via a Trey Laughlin 32-yard toss. After a failed extra point attempt, Washington and Lee would lead 27-3. Wright would close the scoring in the third quarter when he split the uprights from 31 yards out, making it a 30-3 contest.
The lone bright spot on the afternoon for the Panthers was their last drive of the affair, as the Panthers used 11 plays to travel 99 yards and then was capped off by a Joe Burris III rush from 13 yards out. That was as close as Ferrum would get, as Washington and Lee was able to close out the game by a 30-10 score.
The Panthers were 0-11 on third down in the contest, compared to a 7-15 mark set by Washington and Lee. The Generals out-gained Ferrum 490-170 in the contest. Zack Clifford was 11-22 through the air for 127 yards and was picked off once. Burris III led the Panthers in the rushing department with 58 yards on eight attempts and a score. Brian Mann was held to just two yards from scrimmage on nine carries. Ryan Beidleman hauled in three passes for 44 yards to lead the Ferrum receivers. The Generals used a two-quarterback system, as Pollard was 5-7 through the air for 97 yards and a score. Laughlin added 73 yards on 6-8 passing to go along with a score as well. Coby Kirkland had a big day on the ground for Washington and Lee, amassing 93 yards on just three attempts as he added a score of his own. Montgomery Owen had the stat line of the day, recording 152 yards receiving to go along with two scores.
On defense, Niccolas Helvy led the way for the Panthers, recoding six solo tackles and nine tackles total. AJ Camp was close behind with seven total tackles, six being solo tackles. Kyle Wood led the Generals with five tackles, all being solo. Will Corey picked-off Clifford early in the second quarter, returning it for 18 yards before being tackled. Oak Mize added three tackles of his own, including a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Coach Rob Grande's team will be back in action on campus during Homecoming weekend here on the campus of Ferrum College. The Panthers will take on Guilford College at W.B. Adams Stadium in an ODAC affair, with game time set for 1 p.m.
