Marshall Doss joined the Ferrum football coaching staff as Defensive Coordinator in January 2016. He came to Ferrum from Emory & Henry College, where he spent five years as an assistant coach. In 2017, Ferrum's defense under Doss led the USA South in total defense and had five players named All-Conference, including Defensive Player of the Year Montel Lee. In 2016, the Panthers had the USA South's top-ranked rushing defense and landed three players on the All-Conference team, including Lee as Defensive Player of the Year.

Doss was Assistant Head Football Coach and Linebackers Coach for the Wasps from Spring 2014 to Fall 2015, and served as Linebackers Coach and Academic Coordinator from Spring 2011 to Spring 2014. He coached six All-Conference linebackers, one ODAC Player of the Year and one All-American. He also coordinated E&H's punt and kickoff return units, finishing with a #2 ODAC ranking in 2015. Prior to his work at Emory & Henry, Doss served three seasons as Assistant Coach at Brevard. He also spent a year in 2007 at Franklin & Marshall College, and was an intern at Emory & Henry in Spring 2007. Doss played three years at Emory & Henry and a year at East Tennessee State. He was a team captain for the Wasps and an All-American honorable mention in 2006, the 2006 ODAC Defensive Player of the Year and the 2006 Richmond Touchdown Club College Division Defensive Player of the Year.

Doss and his wife Tori have two daughters, Emilia and Harper. The family currently resides in Rocky Mount, Virginia.
