Golfers Compete at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. -- The Ferrum College men's golf team competed in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational March 20-22, finishing last in a filed of 27 teams.  The tournament was played at the Jekyll Island Golf Club's par 72, 6679-yard Oleander Course.

Huntingdon College took top honors with a three-day score of 864.  Methodist University was second at 872, Oglethorpe University third at 873, Illinois Wesleyan University fourth at 874 and Rhodes College fifth at 908.  Ferrum closed at 1072.

Ryan Throckmartin led Ferrum with a 254, placing 134th in a field of 147 golfers.  Ryan Smith was Ferrum's next best finisher at 270, finishing 140th.  Brian Grulkowski shot 278 to finish 141st, Brad Tribble 282 to finish 142nd, and Travis Fields 287 to finish 143rd.

Coach Bryan Harvey's team will be back in action April 4-5 at the Carolina Sands Collegiate.  The event will be played at the Carolina Sands Golf Course in White Lake, North Carolina.  Last year's tournament drew 18 teams, including 13 from NCAA Div. II institutions.
