LaGRANGE, Ga. -- Ferrum College's women's basketball team protected its unbeaten record, but needed overtime to get past USA South newcomer LaGrange College 92-88 this afternoon on the road. Sophomore sensation Jacole Hairston led the Panthers with a career-high 25 points.
Hairston was 9-13 from the floor and 7-8 from the free throw line, scoring five of Ferrum's 15 overtime points. It was her third career 20+ night, including a 23-point effort over #24 Louisiana College last week and a 22-point game against Averett University last season.
Sophomore Kylene Culler added 18 points and 18 rebounds, both career-high totals. She scored all 18 of her points after halftime. Junior Katy Kipps added 15 points and 10 rebounds, and senior Tesla Akers chipped in 13 points, six assists and six steals. Junior Shea Smith had eight points, six assists, four steals and three rebounds.
Heather Miler led all scorers with 26 points for LaGrange (3-5, 0-3 USA South). Caroline Brashier had 14 points, Katie Covington had 12 points and Madison McDonald had 10 points. Kaih Britton pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Panthers (9-0, 3-0 USA South) will be back on action Saturday, Jan. 5, at Piedmont College, also a newcomer to the USASouth this season. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. in Demorest, Georgia.
