FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College's Katy Kipps has been named Women's Basketball Player of the Week by the USA South Athletic Conference for her play in two games last week.  The award is Kipps' first this season.

A junior center from Blacksburg, Virginia, Kipps averaged a double-double (19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds) over two games, both road wins over USA South opponents.  In Ferrum's 92-88 overtime win Jan. 4 at LaGrange College, Kipps had 15 points, 10 rebounds, two blocked shots and an assist.

Kipps then helped Ferrum preserve its unbeaten record with an 86-78 win Jan. 5 at Piedmont College, posting another double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds.  Also nominated for the award from around the league were Camry Green of Christopher Newport University, Mette Scheiman of Averett University, and Tayler Smith of Maryville College.

Ferrum is 10-0 overall, 4-0 in the USA South.  Coach Bryan Harvey's team will play next at home Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 12-13.  The Panthers take on Methodist University Saturday, and Greensboro College Sunday.  Both USA South contests get underway at 2 p.m. in Swartz Gymnasium.
