RALEIGH, N.C. -- Ferrum College trailed by a point with just under four minutes left to play, but rallied for a 65-61 USA South Athletic Conference women's basketball win over Meredith College this afternoon on the road.  Tesla Akers' layup at 3:10 gave the Panthers a 60-59 lead, one they refused to surrender.

Kylene Culler hit a jumper, then made the front end of two free throws to push the score to 63-59 in favor of Ferrum with 2:17 left.  Keyanka Bailey hit a pair of free throws with 58 seconds left to cut the margin to two.  Akers closed things out when she stole an errant Meredith pass, was fouled and converted a pair of free throws.

Katy Kipps led Ferrum with 17 points and added six rebounds, Akers had 16 points and Culler had 12 points.  Mckenzie Edwards had 19 points and Bailey had 18 points for the Avenging Angels (6-14, 2-11 USA South).  Meredith led 34-29 at the break and out-rebounded Ferrum 30-28.

Ferrum (18-2, 12-1 USA South) returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 6, at home against Maryville College.  Coach Bryan Harvey's team suffered its lone USA South loss this season, 79-70, Jan. 16 to the Scots in Maryville, Tennessee.  Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Swartz Gymnasium.
