Panthers Get Past N.C. Wesleyan, Play for USA South Title Sunday

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The top seeded Ferrum College women's basketball team beat #4 North Carolina Wesleyan College, 79-70, this afternoon in the USA South Tournament semifinals at Crown Center Arena.  The Panthers will play in the championship game Sunday afternoon.

Kylene Culler led Ferrum with 16 points and 13 rebounds, her fourth double-double this season.  Katy Kipps also had 16 points to go with nine rebounds.  Shea Smith added 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.  Kayla Goins had nine points in the win.  The Panthers outrebounded N.C. Wesleyan 55-40.

The Bishops (13-14) close out the season with the loss.  Shanice Goree led the team with 18 points.  Monet Edwards added 17 points and eight rebounds, while Tiffany Bell had 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Ferrum (24-3) will play in the title game Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Crown Center Arena.  Coacvh Bryan Harvey's team will face t#2 Christopher Newport University, who beat USA South newcomer #3 Maryville College in today's other semifinal.  The USA South Tournament champion advances to the NCAA Division III Tournament, the field for which will be announced Monday, Feb. 25.
