FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College won its sixth straight women's basketball game with a 79-60 rout of Averett University in USA South Athletic Conference action this afternoon at Swartz Gym.

Ferrum (11-6, 6-0 USA South), Averett (11-7, 4-3 USA South)

Ferrum led 20-18 after one period, but used a 24-9 run in the second to widen the lead to 44-27 at the break. Zarkia Mattox, who led all scorers with 29 points, scored 12 of Ferrum's 24 second-quarter points. Ferrum opened its a 21-point lead at 70-49 when Kelsey Mosley made one of two free throws with 4:55 left to play in the game. Less than a minute later, Maggie Self buried a three-pointer from the corner in front of the Panthers' bench to give Ferrum its biggest lead at 73-50.

Coach Bryan Harvey's team will be back in acton Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 28-29, with a pair of USA South road games. The Panthers play at William Peace University Saturday, and at Greensboro College Sunday. Both league games are set to tip off at 2:00 p.m.
