The Wildcats led 11-6 early on, only to see Ferrum use a 12-0 run to close out the first quarter with an 18-11 lead. Ferrum extend the lead to 35-25 at the break, then a pair of Jessy Nichols free throws and three-pointer by Jacy Marvin widened the lead to a comfortable 40-25 at 8:55 of the third quarter.
The Wildcats roared back with a 17-6 run to end the third and the lead was down to 46-42 Ferrum. The two teams battled back and forth in the fourth quarter, with four ties in the final 4:04 of play. Marvin's three-pointer with 29 seconds left in regulation put Ferrum out in front 59-56, but Dominique Jackson had a layup and three free throws down the stretch to give Randolph the league win.
BEHIND THE WHISTLE
"We lost a tough game on the road tonight at Randolph. We had a 15-point lead midway through the third quarter. They switched defenses and we didn't adjust. I thought our shot selection in the second half needed to be better. When shots aren't falling we can't let that affect the effort we give on the defensive end. Hopefully we will learn from our mistakes and make the necessary adjustments moving forward. We look forward to getting back on the court Saturday in our first home game of the year." --Head Coach Bryan Harvey
Harvey's team will be back in action Saturday, Dec. 1, at home against Virginia Wesleyan University. The ODAC game tips of at 1:00 p.m. in Swartz Gym and is Ferrum's home opener.
