Panther Women Not Enough On Road

ARLINGTON, Virginia -- The Ferrum College women's basketball team wrapped up play in the Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament with a 53-33 non-conference loss to Haverford College Saturday night.

The Panthers were the first to score in this one, as Cameron Hawkins knocked down a trey to start the game. The rest of the quarter would be played back and forth, with Haverford closing it out on a 14-7 run. Kayla Cabiness and Hawkins both had a three for the Panthers in the quarter as Arin Bunker and Jessy Nichols each added a basket. For Haverford, Megan Furch and Anna-Sophia Capizzi led the way with four points apiece in the opening quarter. Julianna Clark added three points to go along with two boards and an assist.

The second quarter was all Haverford, as they outscored the Panthers 17-5. Furch and Clark both stayed hot for the Fords, each scoring four points in the quarter. For Ferrum, Cabiness knocked down her second three of the game and recorded an assist to go along with a rebound. Bunker was the only other Panther to score, as she also added a rebound. The Panthers would head to the break trailing 31-15.

The third quarter saw the Panthers try to claw their way back into the game, outscoring Haverford 11-8. Bunker and Hawkins both had big quarters for Ferrum as they added four points apiece. Cabiness was a force on the glass in the third, recording three rebounds, two of those being offensive. For the Fords, Clark recorded two steals to go along with three points and Furch added three points and a two boards.

Haverford was able to close the game out in the fourth, doubling up Ferrum 14-7. Capizzi added a steal to her five points in the quarter and Furch was close behind with four points and a steal herself. Cabiness led the way for the Panthers in the last stanza, knocking down her only trey she attempted. Bunker added two points and two rebounds for Ferrum as well.

Cameron Hawkins was named to the Pablo Coto All-Tournament Team.

Coach Bryan Harvey's team will be back in action in front of the home fans inside Swartz Gymnasium Wednesday, November 20, as it takes on conference foe Guilford College. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
