ROANOKE, Virginia -- Ferrum College competed this afternoon at the 2019 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship, hosted by Roanoke College at Green Hill Park. The Ferrum men placed ninth of 12 teams, while the Panther women were 11th of 12 teams.
Washington and Lee University grabbed the men's title with 31 points, edging University of Lynchburg by eight points. Virginia Wesleyan University was third at 104. Ferrum scored 264 points to place ninth.
Washington and Lee grabbed the women's title at well with 20 points, and was 53 points better than runner-up Lynchburg. Shenandoah University was third at 87. Ferrum scored 294 to finish 11th.
Lynchburg's Max Sparks took home the men's individual title, and was followed by W&L's Daniel Cope and Virginia Wesleyan's Skyler Lattuca. Lynchburg's Shawn Gmurek and W&L's Drew Woodfolk placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Domonique Veney was Ferrum's top runner, finishing 38th in a field of 134 runners.
W&L grabbed the top three spots in the women's race, with Sara Stephenson, Julie Moody and Katie Harris placing 1-2-3. Lynchburg's Stephanie Burnett was fourth and W&L's Katie Bearup was fifth. Gerenis Pineiro was the Panthers' top runner, finishing 61st in a field of 105 runners.
