FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College freshman Brandon Brown has been named Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week by the USA South Athletic Conference for his play in the Panthers' season opener.

Brown opened spring '08 action with wins at #1 singles and #1 doubles in Ferrum's 5-4 loss at Randolph-Macon College February 24 in Ashland, Virginia.

Brown defeated Leigh Thomas Hanes 6-4, 6-0 at #1 singles, then teamed with freshman Allen Robertson for an 8-4 win at #1 doubles over the Yellow Jackets' Hames and Sam Varner.

Also nominated for USA South Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week honors was Dusty Nelson of Christopher Newport University.

Ferrum (0-1) returns to action March 3 against Kings College during the team's annual trip to Orlando, Florida.  The Panthers then face the College of St. Scholastica March 5 and Moravian College March 6.
