Fields Fifth at Lynchburg Golf Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Ferrum College sophomore Travis Fields placed fifth among a field of 34 participants at the 2008 Lynchburg College Golf Invitational.  The tournament was held March 16-17 at the par-72 6947-yard London Downs Golf Course.

Fields carded a two-day score of 163 to tie for fifth place with Virginia Wesleyan University's Brandon Baker at 19 over par. 

Freshman Ryan Throckmartin played well in his collegiate debut for the Panthers, shooting a 24-over par 168 to place 13th individually.

Lynchburg's Greg Hanlon won medalist honors with an 11-over 155.  The Hornets' Joet Brunet and Michael Butzgy tied for second place at 158, followed by Shenandoah University's Nick Yates at 162.

Lynchburg won the team title with a 641, followed by runner-up Shenandoah at 653.  Vieginia Wesleyan was third at 667, Lynchburg's B team was fourth at 682, and Ferrum was fifth at 697.  Rounding out the field were Bluefield College at 706 and Emory & Henry College at 772.

The Panthers are led by third-year head coach Bryan Harvey.  Ferrum will be back in action March 22-23 at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational in Georgia.
