Opening Round Results

FARMVILLE, Va. -- The Ferrum College men's golf team is in second place after day one of the 2012 Hampden-Sydney Invitational, being played today and tomorrow at The Manor Golf Club.  The Panthers shot a 312 and are eight strokes behind team leader and host Hampden-Sydney at 304.

Bridgewater (312) is in third place after the opening round, followed by Hampden-Sydney "B" (322), while Randolph-Macon College (325) rounds out the top five in the 10-team tournament.

Freshman Keegan Howver is in a three-way tie for third place individually after carding a 75.  He trails Christian Rivera of Longwood University, who leads the field of 55 individuals with a 72.  Hampden-Sydney's Rick O'Connell is in second at 74.  Howver is tied for third with Bridgewater's Scott Wakely and Hampden-Sydney's Drew Arnold.

Panther sophomore Grayson Gubson is tied with five others in seventh place after shooting a 78.  Juniors Jacob Hardy (79) and Scott Obenshain (80) are in 13th and 16th place, respectively.  Erick Cox (88) is in 41st place after the opening round.
