LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Ferrum College wrestling team earned a pair of wins this afternoon at Washington and Lee University. The Panthers whalloped KIng's (Pa.) College 45-0, then topped the host Generals 44-3. In the third match of the non-conference tri-meet, King's nipped W&L 26-24.

The Panthers opened the day with the rare shutout over the Monarchs (1-5). Robert Cunningham (125 lbs) and Justin Zimmerman (133) opened with decisions, then Logan Meister (141), Logan Smith (149) and Paul Biggs (157) each posted a major decision. Dustin Santmyers (165) and Adam Fitzwater (174) each pinned his opponent with exact fall times of 1:16, before Corbin Ramos (184) accepted a forfeit. Nick Rodriguez (197) was winning his match when his opponent medical defaulted, and Tate Dulany (285) nipped his opponent 3-2 in the closest match of the day up to that point.

Against Washington and Lee (2-4), the Panthers accepted forfeits in four of the first five weight classes. Zimmerman (133) posted a pin at 5:58 for his second win of the day, Santmyers (165) earned a decision for his second win of the day and Manako Peay (174) won by an 18-2 technical fall at the 5:45 mark. Ron Tassoni recorded the Generals' lone win, 10-6, over Ramos. Rodriguez (197) then beat Bennett Lewis, one of the Generals' top wrestlers, 14-9. Dulaney (285) closed out the day when he scored a takedown in overtime for a 3-1 win.

Ferrum (2-0) returns to action Saturday, Dec. 6, at the New Standard Corp Invitational, hosted by York College of Pennsylvania. Coach Nate Yetzer's team will then compete in the Gator Boot Duals Saturday, Dec. 20, in Nashville, Tennessee.
