Tyler Lee, a health sciences major from Alcoa, Tenn., is the first-ever college student to be named to a United Way executive board. Lee may serve two consecutive three-year terms for the Franklin County United Way. Franklin Memorial Hospital CEO Bill Jacobsen recommended Lee for the position.
An active member of the campus community, Lee has been vice president of the Student Government Association, the men's tennis team captain, the women's soccer manager, president of the Ferrum Freaks spirit club, a Minds-N-Medicine club member, and engaged in numerous other activities. Lee became involved with United Way as a way to get to know the people of Franklin County.
"The United Way is an amazing service for Franklin County and a significant feeder for many other local organizations," said Lee, who hopes to get more Ferrum College faculty, staff and students involved with United Way. "I look forward to serving this county to the best of my abilities and raising funds to exceed the county goal. It is a huge honor to become the first ever college student to be on a executive board of any United Way."
