Tate Dulany (285) scored pins in the final three matches of the night to give Ferrum College a 47-6 wrestling win over Southern Virginia University tonight at Swartz Gym. The non-conference match was the Panthers' 2014-15 home-opener.
Neither team had a wrestler at 125 pounds, resulting in a double forfeit.
Paul Ambrose (133) accepted a forfeit, as did
Austin Jenkins (141).
Paul Biggs (149) got things rolling whe he posted a 16-1 technical fall over the Knights' Harris Day to put Ferrum out in front 17-0. The Knights (0-9) got their only points of the night when Rhett Honeycutt (157) pinned Ferrum's
Daniel Reynolds at the 1:20 mark.
Dustin Santmyers (165) and
Adam Fitzwater (174) accepted forfeits to make the team score 29-6.
Ramos led 5-0 before pinning SVU's Michael Kilstrom at 4:17, and Rodriguez led 8-1 before pinning Nate Rogers at the 2:09 mark. Dulany scored a takedown early in the first period and put Caleb West directly to his back to collect a 22-second pin in closing out the night.
Ferrum (7-7) will be on the road Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Builder Open, hosted by The apprentice School. Coach Nate Yetzer's team will look to defend its title run from a year ago. Wrestling begins at 9:00 a.m. in Newport News, Virginia.
