STAFFORD, Va. -- Ferrum College picked up a non-conference wrestling win this afternoon, beating McDaniel College 25-15 at Colonial Forge High School. The match was the featured college match, held during a two-hour intermission during the Battlefield Duals that Colonial Forge was hosting. The match featured seven lead changes and included two pins, a technical fall and two major decisions.

The match began with McDaniel's Nathaniel Frantz picking up a 7-1 win over Brett Sommers at 125 pounds. Ferrum's Justin Zimmerman then posted a 10-2 major decision over Ben Montanye at 133 to give Ferrum a 4-3 lead. At 141 pounds, Alvontea Drummond edged Logan Meister 3-2 to swing the team score back in favor of McDaniel, 6-4. Logan Smith picked up a 9-6 win at 149 pounds over Trey Mitchel to put Ferrum back on top 7-6. The Green Terror edged back out in front 9-7 after five matches when Erik Meyer beat Ferrum's Daniel Reynolds 8-2 at 157 pounds.

Dustin Santmyers posted a 10-2 major decision over McDaniel's Luke Yox at 165 pounds and Ferrum held an 11-9 lead. Logan Yox then pinned Ferrum's Adam Fitzwater at 174 pounds in a time of 1:04 to give McDaniel a 15-11 lead. For the Green Terror (3-1), it would prove to be their final win of the match.

Ferrum 184-pounder Corbin Ramos pinned McDaniel's Jake Pooton at 1:14, then Nick Rodriguez posted a 20-4 technical fall over Nick Cross at 197 pounds to put Ferrum out in front 22-15. Tate Dulany closed out the match with a 6-1 win over Robb Donovan at 285 pounds to account for the final score of 25-15.

Ferrum (3-4) returns to action Friday and Staurday, Jan. 9-10, at the Virginia Duals, one of the oldest collegiate wrestling tournaments in the country. The Panthers will then wrestle their 2014-15 home-opener Friday, Jan. 16, against Southern Virginia University.
