Panthers Take Down Averett on Senior Night

FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College came out on top of a men's wrestling match over Averett University, 24-15 at home inside Swartz Gymnasium. Ferrum also honored their two seniors, Carlos Leyva and Pablo Zanistanavicius prior to the match.

THE BASICS
Averett jumped out to the early advantage after winning the first two matches by decisions, first at 285 and then at 125. Ferrum and Averett would then trade blow at 133 and 141, with Levi Englman getting the Panthers on the board at 133 and Brandon Woody answering back for Averett with a victory at 141.

Ferrum would then take control of the match by winning the next four bouts, including a Tatom Tyree pin just 53 seconds in at 149.

The Panthers got decisions from Englman (133), Elijah Martin (157), and Luke Nees (165). Tatom Tyree scored a pin at 149, Braden Homsey earned a tech fall at 17, and Malik Barr earned a major decision at 174 to round out the Panther scoring.

UP NEXT
Coach Nate Yetzer will take his team to Montgomery, Alabama, Saturday, February 22, to compete in the Southeast Wrestling Conference Tournament hosted by Huntingdon College. The Panthers came away with the 1st place finish at the same tournament a year ago.
