JOHNSON, Tenn. -- The Ferrum College men's tennis team grabbed a non-conference road win over Johnson University, winning 8-1 this afternoon at the JU Tennis Courts.

THE BASICS
Ferrum swept doubles play, then took five of the six singles matches. The #1 doubles team of Riley Kern and Jose Villacis won 8-0, Jacob Glass and Patrick Marsh won 8-6 at #2, then Leo Galpin and Houston Murphy completed the sweep with an 8-6 win in the #3 spot.

Villacis then beat Malachi Carr 6-0, 6-2 at #1 singles to make the team score 4-0, and Galpin wrapped up the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #2 singles over Stephen Damon.

Kern, Marsh and Pol Lambea earned wins at #3, #4 and #5 singles, respectively, for the Panthers. Daniel Orahood helped Johnson avoid the shutout with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Houston Murphy in the #6 singles spot.

The COVID-19 virus has postponed all Ferrum athletic activity following today, with a hopeful return date of April 6. Coach Rod Baker's team is scheduled to be back in action Friday, April 17, at home against Bridgewater College. The ODAC match is set for a 4:00 p.m. start at the Burrows-Skeens Tennis Courts.
