LEXINGTON, Virginia -- Ferrum College dropped its women's basketball season opener tonight on the road, falling 62-43 to Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponent Washington and Lee University at Holekamp Gym.

THE BASICS
Washington and Lee jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, including a pair of Kathryn Vandiver jumpers.
Kayla Cabiness broke the scoring drought with a jumper for the Panthers at 4:32. W&L stretched the lead to 17-8 at the end of the first quarter.
The Generals led 19-10 at 6:51 of the second quarter, when Ferrum went on a 7-2 run over the next two minutes to trim the lead to 21-17 at 4:41. Hanna Malik's three-pointer with 22 seconds left in th quarter extended the lead back to nine points, 28-19 at the break.
Ferrum battled back in the third quarter, closing to within two points, 30-28, on
Alexis Miller's three-pointer at the 5:46 mark. The Generals slowly began to pull away, closing the third with a 48-33 lead. Mary Schleushner's jumper with 5:11 left to play gave W&L its biggest lead of the game at 62-39.
