Ferrum Beats Agnes Scott in Sewanee Hoops Classic

SEWANNE, Tennessee -- The Ferrrum College women's basketball team beat Agnes Scott College, 69-63, in the opening game of the Sewanee Hoops Classic this evening at Juhan Gymnasium.

THE BASICS
Kayleigh Shreffler hit back to back three pointers and dished out an assist to Trina Lewis as the Panthers took an early 8-0 lead in the first quarter. Shreffler again hit a three to put the Panthers up by nine 17-8, with 1:45 to go in the first quarter. Only to see Agnes Scott come back within two, 19-17 after one quarter of play. 

Anges Scott would outscore the Panthers 18-17 in the second quarter to be only down by one, 36-35 at halftime. Both teams traded the lead twice and neither was able to capitalize off turnovers

The third quarter was another close one as both offenses exploded and shot the ball well. Ferrum only outscored the Scotts by two, 21-19, and headed into the fourth quarter with a three-point lead. 

In the fourth quarter, Ferrum and Agnes Scott both struggled to points on the board. Both teams saw scoreless droughts of over two and a half minutes of play. Lewis hit two free throws and Kayla Cabiness hit one to help close out the game for the Panthers.
