Ferrum Sixth at Citrus Invitational; Dixon Wins 285-Pound Crown

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida -- Ferrum College's men's wrestling team competed Thursday and Friday, December 29-30, at the 2022 Citrus Invitational, held at Broward County Convention Center, with John Carroll University (Ohio) serving as host. Ferrum placed sixth in a field of 15 teams, with Rayshawn Dixon winning the 285-pound individual title.

THE BASICS
The Panthers entered 20 wrestlers in the tournament and were paced by three wrestlers that reached the podium: Rayshawn Dixon (1st, 285), Levi Englman (5th, 141) and Braden Homsey (7th, 197).

Dixon barreled through the 285-pound weight class with a 5-0 mark, including a pair of pins and three decisions, to earn his third individual title this season. In his semifinal match, Dixon pinned #2 seed Jeffrey Allen of Liberty University at 2:32 of the first period. Allen is the three-time reigning NCWA national champion at 285 pounds. Dixon then nipped #1 seed Tyler Kim of Augsburg University, 4-3, in the title match, scoring a takedown with one second left in regulation to come from behind and post the upset win. Kim is a two-time All-American and currently ranked #2 in the nation by Intermatwrestle.com.

Englman advanced to the semifinals before losing, then wrestled back through the consolation bracket, beating Cody Williams of UNC-Pembroke 6-1 in the 5th-place match. He closed out the tournament with a 4-2 record, including a pin. Homsey also went 4-2 with a pin, earning a medical forfeit in his 7th-place match.
