ODAC Release
FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College's Athletic Department recently participated in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Canned Food Drive.
The ODAC annually coordinates a conference-wide canned food drive, aimed at helping league schools to assistant local organizations. Ferrum began its efforts for the canned food drive on September 14 and concluded on November 16.
Ferrum Coordinator of Student-Athlete Success, Inclusion and Leadership Dajah Berger coordinated efforts for the Panthers, mobilizing the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to assist with collecting canned foods and other non-perishable items. Ferrum collected 1,150 items in all, which were donated to St. James Community Center, located on Route 40-West, approximately a mile from campus.
The Ferrum Athletic Department has partnered with St. James on many occasions over the years. St. James provides support through a food pantry, providing meals for families of need in the local area. Also included at the food pantry are gently-used clothes and household items.
"I'm so proud of the work our SAAC did in making this happen," said Berger. "The people at St. James were so appreciative of our efforts and would like to continue partnering with us on future initiatives."
