FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College's men's wrestling team picked up a 34-10 win over visiting Shenandoah University tonight at Swartz Gym. The Panthers racked up three pins in a row at 184 pounds, 197 and 285.

SENIOR SENDOFF
The Panthers opened the day with a Senior Night ceremony for four graduating wrestlers. Honored before the first match were Caden Dalton, Christian Hite, Charles Tisby and Jay Worley, and all four wrestlers saw mat time tonight.
THE BASICS
The match started at 165 pound weight class and Anthony Gaskin got things rolling with a 9-4 win over George Vrachnos to spot the Panthers a 3-0 lead. Shenandoah's Dylan Weaver returned the favor, picking up a 12-2 major decision over Colt Oliver at 174 to put the Hornets on top 4-3.
The Shenandoah lead was short-lived as Sam Slate (184), Braden Homsey (197) and Rayshawn Dixon (285) each posted a pin. Slate pinned Thomas Domerese in 4:17, Homsey decked Troy Gibson in 2:15 and Dixon pinned Daniel Metz in just 38 seconds to swell the lead to 21-4. Slate leads the Panthers this season with 10 pins.
Following a double-forfeit at 125 pounds, Trent Proctor won by forfeit at 133, then Levi Englman beat Colton White 9-5 at 141 pounds. The Hornets picked up their second win of the night when Tyler Ramirez was forced to withdraw after suffering an injury, giving his opponent Patrick Coffron an injury default at 149 pounds. Prior to the default, Ramirez led 4-2 on the strength of two takedowns.
Hite used a late takedown to secure an 11-3 major decision over Jalen Cornelius at 157 pounds to close out the match. Three exhibition matches against Roanoke College wrestlers followed, with Dalton winning a tight match, while Tisby and Worley dropped matches.

Coach Logan Meister's team will be back in action at the NCAA Southeast Regionals, to be held Friday and Saturday, February 25-26. The event will be held at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The top three wrestlers in each weight class qualify for the NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championships March 11-12 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
