WILLIAMSPORT, Pennsylvania -- Ferrum College's men's wrestling team competed in three matches in the opening day of action at the 2023 Budd Whitehill Duals, hosted at Lycoming College's Keiper Recreation Center. The Panthers dropped all three matches today, including a match with #21 Ithaca College.

THE BASICS
Adrian Samano (125 lbs) earned a 6-1 decision to spot the Panthers an early 3-0 lead over #21 Ithaca. The Bombers then picked up six straight wins, including four with bonus points to go out in front 25-3. Sam Slate (184) made his season debut with a 10-4 decision. The two teams split the final two matches, Ithaca winning at 197 and Ferrum's Rayshawn Dixon earning a forfeit at 285.

Williams lead 14-3 through five matches, with Rubyn Semedo winning 10-5 as he bumped up to 141 pounds. Mateo Villalobos (165) earned an 1103 major decision to trim the lead to 14-7, only to see the Ephs grab a pair of decisions in the next two weight classes to extend the lead to 20-7. Braden Homsey (197) nailed looked solid in winning 14-1 major decision, then Dixon (285) eked out a 4-2 win for the final count.

York PA rolled to a commanding 21-0 lead after five matches, with Joey Olalde broke up the shutout with a 10-9 decision at 165 pounds to get Ferrum on the scoreboard. The Spartans earned a major decision at 184 pounds, then Ferrum grabbed the last three wins, with Slate (184) winning by decision, Homsey (197) posting a tech fall and Trent Ray (285) accepting a forfeit.
