WHEATON, Illinois -- Ferrum College's men's wrestling team competed Friday and Saturday, at the 81st Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational, held at King Arena, with Wheaton University (Illinois) serving as host. Ferrum placed 17 in a field of 31 teams, with
Rayshawn Dixon winning the 285-pound individual title.

THE BASICS
The Panthers entered nine wrestlers in the tournament and were paced by two wrestlers that reached the podium:
Dixon (1st, 285) and
Braden Homsey (4th, 197).
Dixon barreled through the 285-pound weight class with a 5-0 mark, including a pin and two decisions and two sudden victories, including the championship match, to earn his fourth individual title this season. In his quarterfinal match, he won his first sudden victory match of the day. Dixon then beat Cole Fibranz of University of Chicago by sudden victory in the first overtime period. After getting takedown with seven seconds remaining in the match, the championship went to overtime. Then at the 1:36 of the first overtime Dixon got a takedown to win it all.
Homsey also went 4-2 with a pin, two decisions and a medical forfeit.
