Kayla Cabiness had a game-high 24 points to lead Ferrum College to a 61-57 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball win over Averett University tonight at Swartz Gym.

THE BASICS
Ferrum jumped out to a 4-0 lead on baskets by
Taryn Blankenship and Cabiness. Elisa Harris' three-pointer with 1:20 left on the first quarter to cut the score to 15-14.
Asya Williams was fouled and made a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left in the quarter to give the Panthers a 17-14 lead after one.
Amore Kirkland hit a three-pointer for Averett at 8:12 of the second quarter to tie the game at 19-19. Ferrum scored the next five points, grabbing a 24-19 lead on Cabiness' three-pointer at 6:37. The Cougars answered with a 12-5 run to close out the half on top 31-29.
Averett led 40-39 late in the third quarter, then used a 5-0 run to take a 45-39 lead into the fourth quarter. Talia Prosper's three-pointer at 6:49 kept Averett out in front 50-45, but Ferrum orchestrated a 10-0 run, capped by a Cabiness driving layup, to take a 55-50 lead with 4:21 left to play.
Harris's jumper with eight seconds left in regulation got the Cougars as close as two points at 59-57, but Cabiness was fouled and sank two free throws in the waning seconds to end scoring.
