FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College's women's basketball team trailed by 10 at the break before eventually falling 66-53 to University of Lynchburg in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action tonight at Swartz Gym.

THE BASICS

Taryn Blankenship layup gave Ferrum the early 2-0 lead, but Lynchburg used a 9-0 run to go out in front 9-2 en route to a 13-6 lead after on.
The Hornets led 19-14 midway through the second quarter, but
Shantel Crowder's three-pointer with 3:23 left before the break cut the lead to 19-17. Lynchburg used an 8-0 run from there to close out the half on top 27-17.
Ferrum came alive in the third quarter, outscoring Lynchburg 21-7. Blankenship's jumper at 3:12 of the third put Ferrum back out in front, 30-29.
Trina Lewis and
Kayla Cabiness each hit a pair of free throws late in the third quarter to give the Panthers a 38-34 lead heading into the fourth.
A 10-2 run to open the fourth put Lynchburg back in front, 44-40, with 6:30 left to play, but the Panthers would not go quietly.
Allyson Cassell had a layup, then Crowder hit a jumper to tie the game at 44-44 with 5:04 left in regulation. The Hornets exploded with a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach at 54-44 with 3:17 left.
