FERRUM, Virginia -- The Ferrum College women's basketball team dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game at home to Guilford College, falling 68-63 tonight at Swartz Gym.

THE BASICS
Guilford led 7-2 early on, but
DeMeisha Canada's driving layup and turnaround jumper made it a 7-6 game at the 5:21 mark of the first quarter. The Quakers used a 6-3 run to close out the first on top 13-9.
In the second quarter, Ferrum cut the margin to 15-14 on
Aisha Martin's driving layup at 6:41. Guilford extended its lead to six points with four minutes left in the second quarter,
Kayla Cabiness drilled a deep three-pointer from the left side, and Martin converted a pair of free throws to trim the lead to 22-21 with 3:15 left until halftime.
Ferrum was on the wrong side of a 26-22 score when Cabiness hit a jumper, then followed with another three-pointer, and
Erin Harden added a three-pointer that put the Panthers on top 30-28 at the break.
Guilford used an 11-4 run to open the third quarter, capped by Taylor Dunn's three-pointer at the 4:11 mark to take a 39-34 lead. The Quakers then exploded for 10 unanswered points, taking a 49-34 advantage on Carleigh Perry's driving layup with 20 seconds left in the quarter. Martin made one of two free throws in the waning seconds of the third to close out the third with Guilford in front 49-35.
Cabiness opened the fourth quarter with a basket, Martin knocked down a three-pointer from the right side and Canada made a pair of layups to trim the lead to 49-44 at 7:30.
Canada's put back at 5:15 trimmed the score to 52-51, but the Quakers came back and knocked down a pair of jumpers. Martin converted another three-pointer, again from the right side, to get the Panthers back within two points at 56-54 with 4:10 left to play.
Kayleigh Shreffler's jumper at 2:34 cut the lead to 60-58, but Gauldin hit a layup at the other end for a 62-58 Quaker lead with 1:33 left.
Canada hit a pair of free throws to make it a 62-60 game with 1:12 left, but the Quakers played well enough in the final minute to hang on and preserve the league win.

Bryan Harvey's team wrapped up regular season play with tonight's game. The Panthers will learn after this weekend where they will play in the ODAC Tournament play-in game, to be held Monday, February 20, on the campus of the higher seeded team.
